Lighting Services
The light-emitting diode (LED) is a very energy-efficient form of lighting. As well as being cheaper to run, quality LED lighting should last longer and provide comparable or even better light quality than other types of lighting. It has a lower heat output and faster warm up time than conventional lighting and, from an environmental viewpoint, LED’s last longer and they have lower CO2 emissions and normally don't contain any toxic materials like the mercury vapour in compact fluorescent lighting.
LED’s for Homes
When buying LED’s please note that the quality can vary, depending on the manufacturer. They are still relatively expensive to buy and not all LED bulbs are dimmable. Where they are dimmable, it is usually necessary to buy compatible dimmers as the conventional dimmers may not be suitable. High powered LED downlights can be taller than the halogen lights that they are replacing, so this needs to be checked where space is limited. LED’s may also fail prematurely in high temperature conditions. However, there is still a very strong case for replacing conventional lighting with LED’s.
LED Lighting Systems for Offices, Factories and Schools
LED lighting has a major role to play in educational, commercial and industrial lighting where the cost of running and maintaining the older lighting systems can be significant. The use of LED and low-energy lamps with automatic lighting controls can result in substantial savings in terms of money and CO2 emissions.
